It is believed that the history of Banaras is about 3000 years old, i.e. around the 11th century. However, some scholars also claim that this city situated on the banks of Ganga is 4000-5000 years old.

Varanasi is called the spiritual city of India. It is called a spiritual city. Apart from this, this city is also known as ‘Banaras’ and ‘Kashi’ all over the world. This city has great importance in Hindu religion and is considered a very holy place. This city has its own spiritual significance because of the Ganga and Lord Shiva present here. 

How Varanasi got its name

This city got its name Varanasi. It is formed by the two local rivers present here, Varuna River and Asi River. These two rivers Varuna and Asi come from north and south and join river Ganga. Apart from this, it is also said about the name of this city that in ancient times, Varuna river must have been called Varanasi, due to which this city was called Varanasi. Apart from this, this city is also known by the names Banaras, Kashi, Bholenath city etc.

Lord Shiva established this city

Religious beliefs and According to mythology, the city of Varanasi was originated or established by Lord Shiva about 5000 years ago. Apart from this, Lord Shiva himself is present here in the form of Kashi Vishwanath, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. This is the reason why even today Banaras is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus. This city is mentioned in many Hindu texts including Skanda Purana, Ramayana, Mahabharata, the oldest Veda, Rigveda.

When did Delhi and Mumbai become established?

Let us tell you. That Kashi has a much older history than Delhi and Mumbai. According to the information, in the Hindi composition Prithviraj Raso of Maharaj Prithviraj Chauhan’s court poet Chanderbardai, Tomar king Anangpal has been described as the founder of Delhi. It is believed that it was he who got ‘Lal-Kot’ constructed and brought the Iron Pillar of the Gupta period of Mehrauli to Delhi. The reign of Tomaro in Delhi is considered to be from 900-1200 AD. According to historians, Delhi was destroyed and settled many times during the time of Mughals. 

The story of Mumbai, the city of dreams, begins with seven islands. The city of Mumbai was established by connecting them. These seven islands are Chhota Colaba, Worli, Mazgaon, Parel, Colaba, Mahim, Bombay Island. By the end of the 19th century, all the islands were connected to each other. After independence, Mumbai (then Bombay) got the status of a state. Earlier it was called Bombay Presidency.
